Swami Narayani

Creator of Narayani Remedies, now also in the form of Cosmic Remedies, Norma Rowan Harman, born on January 17, 1924, and her husband, Colin Edward Harman lived with their children in Durban, South Africa. Norma, with her keen interest in yoga and spirituality, was studying to become a homeopathic doctor, when she met Swami Venkateshananda, a disciple of the renowned Swami Shivananda, in 1960’s.  Upon his advice, Dr. Harman started a mobile clinic and provided services free of cost. Soon there were many clinics, but she was able to visit each clinic only on a monthly basis. Though she was trained as a classical homeopath, she had to improvise her methods of prescribing because of limitations of time and money. The result was the development of combinations of remedies, simplified to serve the poor and destitute, who were mostly illiterate.

In 1981, Norma and her fellow trainee, Giridharlal, were officially initiated into Sanyas (monkhood). She became Swami Narayani, and Giridharlal became Swami Ananda. Swami Narayani was often called “Mataji” meaning mother. In 1989 Swami Narayani received an Albert Schweitzer Award for Humanitarian Work in Healing for her selfless work and service. She spent much time traveling all over India, teaching her methods to homeopathic doctors and healers. After 1989, Swami Narayani returned to South Africa. On Thursday 6 April 1995, Swami Narayani passed away, but her work continues even after her passing. Swami Narayani’s method of Homeopathy and her “Narayani Remedies” are administered in over 80 countries today, and are spreading and growing in popularity every year. There are many centers in India and South Africa where there is only the use of these formulas and the results are excellent. This does not discount the use of single classical remedies, and in fact, on the contrary there is better understanding of single remedies. Together with Swami Ananda, Swami Narayani wrote the Handbook of Healing, which is at presently being used as part of a curriculum in Homeopathy at many teaching institutions in India.

Swami Ananda

Formerly known as Giridharlal, Swami Ananda had lived an adventurous life as a traveler and jewelry store owner. He transformed his life completely once he renounced his worldly engagements and devoted his life to to serve the poor and needy. He continued the legacy of Swami Narayani, teaching and spreading knowledge of their work until his death in February, 2021. The founders and admins of Cosmic Remedies were personally trained by Swami Ananda for many years and, with his exclusive approval and blessings, they have re-organized Narayani remedies, without compromising any of the original attributes.
